In an unforeseen turn of events, Donald Trump one of the most popular presidential candidates of all time won the 2016 presidential election when he defeated Hillary Clinton to become the 45th American President.
Trump had beat Hillary who had 218 points by very huge margins with only 25 points to reach 270 when Hillary called him to concede and congratulate him about winning the election.
These two were much more like nemesis and superhero in a comic book or movie plot with Hillary and the government’s past and several mistakes always being preyed upon by Trump in most of his campaigns. He based on these and used them to rally the people to fight for change, that the government is rotten, does not help everyone but a few and there is need to “drain the swamp”
Obviously you also remember the popular phrase where he coined Hillary as “crooked Hillary”. The Associated Press broke out the news in favour of Trump’s presidency at 2:30a.m on Wednesday and in his acceptance speech he said, “I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so we can work together and unify our great country.”
Admittedly, in the beginning many of us saw a Donald Trump presidency coming but along the way as several celebrities, media, analysts and their polls crunched the numbers and swayed us by favouring Hillary Clinton we lost sway and thought he would never win. Most of us including the world never saw this coming.
ALERT: The Immigration website for Canada crashed due to many applications just after the Donald Trump win!
This is a man who spent less on his campaign ads and trail yet still manage to gather so many people to come together and listen to his speeches whereas Hillary had numerous support from the celebrities like A-list musicians, movie stars and very many other wealthy and rich people. It seemed like Trump stood no chance.
Despite all this he spoke highly of Clinton after winning the election, he expressed his respect for her and sincere appreciation all the work she has sincerely already done of the United States of America.
Donald Trump was and still is very confident and proud of himself, he knows he was right and he did say that, “this is going to be big, bigger than even Brexit.”
The Republican Party won the majority in the house and Senate too so Donald Trump is going to have a field day in office.
The question though is will he keep all the promises he made? He made so many promises during his elections such as stronger cooperation with Russia and China, bringing back the old American manufacturing glory, creating jobs, pulling out of useless wars, shifting the balance in NATO, tightening the borders around America so as to reduce on immigration.
I’m sure Ugandans are excited waiting for him to come for African dictators but will all this happen? Time will tell.
