The Box Office is getting lit this year with lower budget movies gunning for the top spot this summer and one of them is the latest arrival Sicario: Day of the Soldado movie.
The new Sicario movie which is under a $50 million budget performed better than predicated bringing in $19 million at its opening weekends though it was not as high as last year’s Baby Driver movie which hit $30 million in the first 6 days on a $34 million budget.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado is a 2018 action thriller film directed by Stefano Sollima and written by Taylor Sheridan which is a sequel to 2015’s Sicario that featured Emily Blunt.
The film brings an amazing cast together from the likes of Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Jeffrey Donovan reprising their roles, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener joining the team.
Sicario 2 this time around brings back to life a story revolving around the drug war at the U.S.-Mexico border as it has escalated to the point where the US government requires the help of a hitman Alejandro Gillick.
For those that don’t know, the word sicario means hitman which is a direct translation from Spanish. It is commonly used among Mexican drug cartels.
Will the new sequel be able to beat the previous Sicario which grossed $46.9 million in the United States & Canada and $38 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $84.9 million, against a production budget of $30 million? Time will tell.
However, if you enjoy action thrillers, then this movie will be a great watch for you.
