Former IGP of Uganda Police, Kale Kayihura was arrested in Lyantonde on Tuesday, 12th June, 2018 in the evening by Special Forces Command (SFC) accompanied by several generals.
Reports about a heavy presence of SFC, CMI and ISO in Lyantonde on Masaka – Mbarara high way searching for Kale Kayihura under direct order from the President, Yoweri Kaguata Museveni started floating around early in the evening but they couldn’t be confirmed until later.
Road blocks were mounted on some roads to Mbarara. Concrete details started floating in when the military officials searched Courtyard Hotel in Lyantonde at around 11p.m where kayihura had been two nights ago, despite being told that he was not there.
The officials ordered the employees to hand over all phones and other gadgets and were instructed to show the officers where Kayihura was.
They then proceeded to mount a search at his farm. He was later arrested and taken to the Senior Officers’ Mess in Kololo guarded by heavy security.
We are yet to confirm where exactly he was found, the reason behind his arrest and what is to happen next. Some sources suggest that he was trying to defect to Rwanda after the president wouldn’t respond to his calls and his colleagues were being rounded up.
The thought crossing some people’s minds is how soon this has come after the death of late Col. Ibrahim Abiriga in a similar way like Kaweesi, Joan Kagezi and others.
We will keep you informed as the story develops.
