Telegram Messenger Servers Down

Telegram Messenger, the alternative and rival to WhatsApp has been down since early morning. Depending on location, some users can see some of the previous messages but cannot send or receive new messages.

Down detector puts the time of outage at around 6am (Ugandan time) and most of the reports were logged in from the Middle East, UK, Europe and Russia. The app isn’t working in Uganda either.

The problem was caused by one of the main servers overheating according to founder and CEO, Pavel Durov.

“Massive overheating in one of the Telegram server clusters may cause some connection issues for European users within the next couple of hours. Apologies for the inconvenience – the problem is being solved.” – Tweet from Pavel Durov

It looks like Telegram has managed to fix whatever caused the problem and will be restoring access soon.
