Many residents in Masaka district have come to face reality after local authorities and the police joined forces to restrict the sale of pork to neighboring districts due to an outbreak of swine flu.

This has has forced residents to smuggle out the pork in sacks and baskets to neighboring districts. The reason for quarantine is to limit the spread of the disease which has has no cure or vaccination.
The affected areas include Bukakata, Kyanamukaka, Buwunga and Kyabakooza sub county.
